Curtis + Eimi’s Sunset Proposal at Seaview Park

There’s something about a sunset proposal overlooking the coast that never gets old.

Curtis reached out while planning a surprise proposal for Eimi and wanted a location with an incredible view, beautiful evening light, and enough space for the moment to still feel intimate.

We ultimately landed on Seaview Park in Laguna Niguel, just outside Laguna Beach.

The elevated coastal views made it such a beautiful setting for the proposal, especially as the light softened toward sunset.

Planning the Surprise

A big part of photographing proposals is everything that happens before I ever pick up my camera.

Curtis and I talked through where he should propose, when he should arrive, which direction to approach from, and exactly where I would be positioned so Eimi wouldn’t suspect anything.

I always want the person proposing to know exactly what to expect beforehand. Once the moment arrives, they shouldn’t be worrying about where to stand or whether I can see them.

They should be completely present.

The Proposal

As Curtis and Eimi made their way toward the overlook, I stayed back and photographed everything discreetly.

Then Curtis got down on one knee.

Eimi’s reaction was so sweet, and once she realized what was happening, the two of them were completely in their own little world.

Those first few minutes after someone says yes are some of my favorite moments to photograph. There’s usually a combination of shock, laughter, hugs, and that realization of, we’re actually engaged!

Sunset Engagement Photos Afterward

After the proposal, we spent some time walking around Seaview Park and photographing the two of them together as the sun went down.

I keep this part relaxed.

There’s enough direction so you never have to wonder what to do, but plenty of room for laughing, walking around, and enjoying the fact that you just got engaged.

The sunset gave us gorgeous warm light and sweeping views of the surrounding hills and coastline.

It was such a fun way for Curtis and Eimi to end an already unforgettable evening.
