A Rainy Day Proposal at Treasure Island Beach in Laguna Beach

Sometimes the best moments happen when things don’t go exactly according to plan.

This sweet couple traveled from New York City for a weekend in Laguna Beach, and there was one very important thing on the itinerary. A surprise proposal at Treasure Island Beach.

Of course, it rarely rains here in Southern California, but Mother Nature had other plans for us that day. When you’re only in town for the weekend and this is THE day you’re going to ask the love of your life to marry you, the show must go on!

And honestly? I’m so glad it did.

One of the things I love most about being a Laguna Beach proposal photographer is knowing this coastline so well. Every beach is different, and when weather, tides, crowds, or lighting decide to throw us a curveball, knowing where to go can make all the difference. Treasure Island Beach gave us the perfect backdrop for this rainy afternoon, with dramatic coastal views, beautiful rock formations, and a little protection from the rain when we needed it.

But my favorite part was how completely these two embraced the day.

Once the proposal happened, the weather almost became part of their story. They laughed, loved on each other, ran around in the rain, and soaked in that “OMG, WE’RE ENGAGED!” feeling. There was no worrying about perfect hair or waiting for the perfect weather. They were completely present with each other, and those are always the moments I love photographing most.
